Description
The traditional Bagru hand block printing technique, with its dark designs on a light cream or dyed muddy-coloured background, creates a unique and intriguing visual appeal.
The use of three to five different blocks to create these distinctive and detailed designs adds to their allure.
Age has created a lovely, soft vintage quilt that would fit a single bed, a lounge, or a throw.
Delicate and textural, this quilt feels like a warm embrace, reminiscent of cotton flannel.
The Bagru print, originally designed for a cotton sari, has been repurposed into a Kantha quilt, adding to its comforting appeal.
Even more than a traditional Kantha-stitched quilt, this piece has also been Suzanne-stitched with coloured threads that run the length and breadth of the quilt, adding even more detail.
This Bagru throw is in good vintage condition and can be hand-washed or machine-washed using a cold setting and gentle wash.
The edges are worn, giving a naturally aged look.
Vintage Kanthas often have patches, small holes, or marks on them, and this is not seen as a fault in any way but rather a story of its history.
Sized at 156 x 192 cm it is large for this style of Kantha.
Original Cotton Sari was made around the 1980s to 1990s.
We also sell new Bagru Kantha quilts for king—and queen-size beds. Their detail makes them easy to recognise.
