Our vintage Kantha quilt is made from upcycled sari cotton from the 1960s.
Indian kantha quilting is a centuries-old craft.
They are made by stitching around 5 to 6 layers of sari cotton into one piece. This particular quilt probably has around 10 layers of cotton.
This practice started out as a way to reuse old saris to sit on, wrap the baby in, or stay warm.
Nowadays, they are treasured hand-stitched items, and each one is unique.
This quilt is in very good condition and has beautiful, even stitching and a patchwork design on one side.
Because of the age of the cloth, you may find small patches or holes through one layer.
Some also have evident marks or stains, which form part of the craft and are not considered faults in any way.
